Never Ignore Your Warranty Card

Most of us purchase gadgets and other electronics at the mall. But with the emergence of e-commerce, it is now possible to buy mobile devices, home appliances and even the whole entertainment system with just one click. The ease of shopping online enabled some of the entrepreneurs to add online shops as their way of getting to their customers easier.

While this has become very convenient to consumers, some problems arise when it comes to the warranty that these companies provide. When purchasing from malls, sales representatives would assist you in filling up the registration certificate and warranty card to ensure that you can be provided with a free service or repair and sometimes replacement for a certain amount of time. Most of the companies offer at least one year. However, when purchasing electronics online, customers fail to mail back the warranty cards or keep their receipts to prove that the electronic appliance or device was bought within the warranty period.

What is a warranty and why is it important?
A warranty is an assurance by a company that specific facts or conditions are true and will happen. It is a statement made by a manufacturer or seller of a product saying that it will perform in the way product has been specified. Manufacturers usually offer express warranties to their customers to build customer confidence.

Products can have problems either upon purchase or after a certain amount of time that it has been used by the consumer. Consumers are reassured by a warranty provided by the company to ensure that the products maintain its qualities. However, it should be equally understood that the warranty has limitations. Therefore, it is important that consumers should carefully read what is on the warranty.

Most often, a one-year warranty for parts and services are provided to consumers. What this does not include is when the product has been intentionally or unintentionally broken which lead to physical damage, if for whatever reason, for example, or the television or refrigerator was plugged during an electric surge that caused a short circuit.

What does a warranty state?
The warranty contains a written statement or promise by the manufacturer or company along with policy and guidelines on how the warranty can be used (the kind of situations where the company agrees to repair or provide service for). This prevents you from extensive repair costs.

Some companies over an extended warranty. With this, the consumer may be required to pay a certain amount which will cover the warranty of the appliance or device that he purchased more than the normal warranty period.

Do you send back the warranty cards?
Most companies would not allow their customer to have a free service or replacement of parts if the warranty card has not been sent to them. That is why, it is important to make sure that you keep both the warranty card and the receipts in a safe place so that whenever any problem may arise, it would be easier for you to have your appliance or device repaired. Information on the receipts from the POS machine may eventually fade. Therefore, have your receipt photocopied as well.
