Preparing for the Yuletide Season
The Philippines is known to be the only country who starts celebrating Christmas as early as September until the first week of January. People from other countries may find it a bit weird to see how excited we all are to hear Christmas carols being sung over the radio as soon as the 1st day of September steps in. Does it feel you pressured or does it make you more inspired to do hard twice as much?
The Noche Buena feast is the most delighted of every family. The gathering of families who have lived separately gives them a chance to be reunited and be able to catch up with the lost times. Such a great time to reminisce wonderful memories and to start creating greater ones, indeed. However, before all the merrymakings, one thing needs to be sure – to be able to have enough preparation for the festive season.
You have noticed the fluctuation of prices. While some see it as a deterrent to their Christmas budget, others just shrugged the thought about ruining the Christmas Spirit. They have this thought that no matter how grand the celebration it will be or not, the most important thing is to be able to be all together on this very special day.
What do you usually serve during Christmas? The following traditional dishes are very much anticipated by anyone during the Noche Buena gathering:
· Barbecue
· Chicken Potato Salad
· Christmas Ham
· Crispy Pata
· Embutido
· Fried Chicken
· Fruit Salad
· Kalderetang Baka
· Kare-Kare
· Leche Flan
· Lechon Kawali
· Lechon, the star of the table
· Menudo
· Morcon
· Paella
· Roasted Chicken
· Sisig
· Spaghetti/Carbonara
Did your stomach start to churn after reading all those delicious meals? For sure, you did. Just seeing all those foods would just make you more excited about the coming Christmas. But, also with this, it would mean being enslaved in your kitchen for the whole day just to make sure that everything will be ready by 12 midnight on 24th of December. Well, you don’t need to carry all the burden since there are so many catering services that accept orders for this season and you may want to take advantage of that. Plus, you get to save a lot of money, too.
How Do You Show Your Christmas Spirit?
Make your Christmas extra special this year by making a difference. Here are a few ideas on how you can make your Christmas extraordinary.
1. Give some time to be with the orphans. A few hours with them would mean a whole lot to them. Children that have been abandoned by their parents need to feel that they are also loved. And by giving them some small gifts would bring so much joy to them.
2. You see a lot of homeless people in the streets. Why not randomly give them something like clothes and food? It is not a way of encouraging them to stay living in the streets, but somehow, it would help them feel that someone still cares for them.
3. If you are creative and have some free time, why not make unique Christmas gifts for your friends. Make something out of the ordinary. Buying something from the mall is okay, however, when the recipient of the gift realizes that you put some time in crafting something for him/her, this makes them feel special, too.
4. While waiting for the clock to strike 12 midnight, let the everyone in the family has some fun. Make exciting games for both children and adults. This is the only time of the year where everyone feels being a child again.
5. Light a candle for those loved ones who have departed. Let them also know that they are still part of the celebration and is still being remembered.
What Do You Wish For Christmas?
If this was a question on a beauty pageant, “to bring love and peace to all” would be the most popular question. However, this is something that probably most of you have failed to think about because you have been so busy the whole year thinking about others, thinking about your work.
Christmas time also means being in union with your yourself, allowing yourself to rejoice and be able to feel love not only for others but within yourself. Light a candle and say a little prayer. Your wish, your most fervent wish may just come true.
But most of all, never fail to give time to pray and show your gratitude to all the blessings that you have received this year. After all, Christmas is all about the birth of our Savior. Not all religions may be celebrating the season the same way as the others, but it is important to show love to everyone, and hopefully not just during this special day but all throughout the year.
