Recognizing Female Significance

We get to honor the important people who have made a huge difference in our lives. That is why we celebrate events such as Rizal Day, National Hero’s Day and Labor Day, just to name a few. While we put emphasis on how we all need to know what these events are all about, as taught to us in school, we also should be able not just to learn but to live a life full of humility with a better understanding to improve our lives and can help inspire the youth to have a deeper understanding about all these celebrations.

So many years ago, this event was not celebrated. And we are thankful that aside from recognizing the importance of our own mothers, we are also now celebration the National Women’s Month every March. March 8 was known to be a special day of celebration, the International Women’s Day as declared during the UN General Assembly in 1977. It was only eleven years after when the Philippines followed suit – when President Corazon Aquino became the first woman president of the Republic of the Philippines.

Proclamation No. 224 was signed on March 1, 1988, by President Corazon Aquino and two weeks later, she signed Proclamation No. 227. These two proclamations became the foundation for the Republic Act No. 6949. It is the act naming March 8 as the National Women’s Day in the country, alongside naming the first week of March as Women’s Week and March as Woman’s Role in History Month.

With this special event, we honor the importance of women. Gone are the days when women are classified to be just housewives or just secondary to men. Women of today are more competitive and can equally work as hard as men. They are empowered with the knowledge that they do not only do what they need to do but also realizing solutions that will protect the family, particularly the children. Being mothers to their own children, the kind of approach that they use is something that we can say has a heart.

You may now have read from various articles about women entrepreneurs who have become as successful as men entrepreneurs. Women have various roles and can also provide positive contributions to society. When we think of women leaders, we know that they see the people under them as their children. And just like our own mother caring for her children, the love and concern are just undeniably strong.

The Empowered Women of the Philippines
It is important to build stronger economies by empowering women. They can help achieve goals for development and sustainability, as well as improve the quality of life for all people in various communities.

You can now align these names to the most successful entrepreneurs in the Philippines.

1.     Marcelina Ace Itchon
When we talk about the corporate world, we know that this is entirely a man’s world. However, Ms. Itchon was able to penetrate into that. She was formerly a promo representative of a pharmaceutical company. But now, she is the CEO of Aspen Pharmacare, one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the world.

2.     Klarisee Yu-Tabao
Who would have thought that a young lady as Ms. Klarisse can make a fortune out of eyebrow embroidery, or more commonly known as “microblading.” This business idea actually popped when she saw how her friend’s tattooed eyebrows turned green. And because this kind of make-up embroidery was popular in other Asian countries, she decided to study make-up embroidery classes in Singapore and earned degrees from several academies abroad. She then brought the technology here in the Philippines and put up The Eyebrowdery. The Eyebrowdery’s success has now led her to step up her business through franchising.

3.     Teresita Sy-Coson and Elizabeth Sy
Does the surname look familiar? Of course, it is. Both Teresita and Elizabeth are the daughters of SM Group founder, Henry Sy. Following the death of their father in January of this year, they rank 12th and 13th richest people in the Philippines. Now we know where they got their riches. And through the hard work and perseverance of their father, they have been blessed to have their business running for the past 40 years…. And still counting. Why do we think that they are among the empowering women of today? It is because they do not just let other people work for them, but they themselves are as hardworking as their father, ensuring that their business is always on top.
