4K TV Buying Guide

Shopping for a television has never been the same. Year ago, there were only a few things to consider when purchasing your TV: price, brand, and size. But for the past 10 years, consumers now need to know which type of type of TV would best suit them – a basic LED TV or a Smart TV. However, for the past recent years, there had been so many TV manufacturers that have developed their own TVs which has somehow made it a little tricky to choose which one to buy. For those who do not have financial issues, you can expect from them to buy the biggest and most expensive brands. But for others, they want to make sure that what they are buying is truly worth their money.
TV manufacturers offer different kinds of TV. And for those who would want to have a seamless viewing experience they opt to have the 4K Ultra HD TV.

What is 4K TV?
4K, also known as 4K resolution and Ultra HD refers to the resolution of 3,840 x 1260 pixels. This means that it is 4 times the normal resolution found in your Full HD TV. This is about 8.3 million pixels. The higher the number the pixels means it has a higher pixel density which enables you to have a clearer and more defined picture. It allows you to see more detail and texture of the images being shown on the screen.

The additional resolution found in 4K images adds clarity and definition to the picture that results to images that look almost life-like, sort of looking through a window than watching the images from the screen. The 4K resolution TV can be more appreciated and effective on very large screens. That is why most consumers who prefer to purchase a 4K TV would prefer buying 65” set or bigger. You would notice the huge difference if you used to watch from a basic LED TV. But also, remember, although a huge 4K TV may make you too excited to watch your favorite shows or movies, the size of the TV that you should purchase would also depend on the size of the room where you intend to position your TV. You may check our previous post about this.

Our technology develops a lot of improvements in just a short time that some TV manufacturers are said to be now creating 8K resolution TVs. Just imagine how better the images it would be, but for sure, this would come with a price which may not be that friendly to our pockets. So, for now, having a 4K TV would suffice your viewing needs.

While 4K TV can somehow upscale images from standard definition pictures, it is still best to view from a 4K native source such as those movies which can be found from Netflix and Amazon.

Rules for Buying 4K TV
You want to make sure that you get what you expect from how the various TV brands are advertised. Therefore, there are some basic rules to follow to help you purchase the 4K TV that you prefer.

Rule #1: Check the ideal inputs.
There should at least be 3 HDMI 2.0 A input. An HDMI 2.0 a supports 4K (3840 x 2160 resolution, HDR and wide color gamut up to 60 frames per second.

Rule #2: It should have HDR.
Look for support for WCG (wide color gamet) which means, it can display more colors.

Rule #3: Be aware of the type of panel used.
There are different types of panels.
a.      OLED – Organic Led-emitting Diode; this does not have a backlight and is the most expensive.
b.     LED – Light-emitting Diode; emits light due to Electroluminescence effect; lower power consumption and long-lasting.
1.     Full array + local dimming
2.     Full array (LED across the panel)
3.     Edge-lit
c.      LCD – Liquid Crystal Display; consume much less power than LED and gas-display displays because they work on the principle of blocking light rather than emitting it.
1.     IPS – This type of LED panel is considered to be among the best of the best as they offer superior viewing angles, excellent image quality, and vibrant color accuracy and contrast.
2.     PLS – Plane to Line Switching; brighter with same high viewing angles.
3.     VA – Vertical Alignment; this type of LCD panel is the middle between TN and IPS panel technology. This provides much better viewing angles and higher quality color reproduction features than TN panels, they also tend to have significantly slower response times.
4.     TN – Twisted Nematic; this was common during the 1980’s and offer a low-quality color production.
